Bulldogs Health
The Bulldog is one of the most known dogs due to being one of the dogs that has originated from the British Isles, though they can sometimes be linked/mistaken for American bulldogs due to the breeds looking very similar to one another. Although a number of people often assume that they might be aggressive dogs, they are very much the opposite. They are in fact docile, friendly and loving dogs, its known that they grow to love their owners so much that they will only go outdoors if with their owners and will instead sit happily in the family home.
As a breed they are the most likely of all dog breeds to suffer from hip dysplasia, this affects the joints and can cause them a lot of pain often resulting in arthritis. Some dogs of the breed can also suffer from interdigital cysts, this sees cysts form in between their toes, but it can be easily treated through medication.
They are recognised by their winkled, roped faces, it is important that you regularly clean in between these winkles in order to prevent them from getting any infections in them. Infections can be caused due to natural oils being produced and staying in the winkles, this is also similar to their tails, some Bulldogs have tightly curled tails that tend to be close to their bodies, and these will also need regular cleaning.
If you plan on using your Bulldog for breed then you need should be aware that it is common for the mothers to have a caesarean section. This is because they breed have large heads that can often become stuck during the birth.
Making sure that your Bulldog gets a sufficient amount of exercise will help for them to live a healthy life, giving your dog enough exercise will also help to prevent them from becoming overweight. This will also decrease the chances of them suffering from joint problems as the heavier weight their bodies have to carry the more likely they are to suffer from joint problems.
